Home Buyers

The Texas State Affordable Housing Corporation provides downpayment assistance grants and low-interest loan options to participants who qualify. Programs are for first-time home buyers or those who haven't owned a house in at least 3 years. Qualified veterans do not need to be first-time buyers.

The available funds are dwindling, but more funds are approved for March 2008. Those funds, of course, will be gobbled up as well, so be sure to qualify now for the funds that periodically are added to the program.

Professional Educators Home Loan Program

To be eligible for this program, a potential homebuyer must be a professional educator employed full-time in Texas as a:

  • Classroom teacher
  • Teacher's aide
  • School librarian
  • School counselor
  • School nurse
  • Professional Nursing Program Faculty member
  • Allied Health Program Faculty member

Funds are close to being fully committed .   The Corporation plans on  releasing additional funds  soon . Please check back for future updates.

How to qualify: Be a full time Classroom Teacher, Teacher Aide, School Librarian, School Nurse or School Counselor employed by a public school district in the state of Texas; or a full time faculty member * of either an undergraduate or graduate professional nursing  or allied health program in the State of Texas.

"Homes for Texas Heroes" Home Loan Program

To be eligible for this program, a potential buyer must be a full-time employee working in the State of Texas as a:

  • Paid Firefighter
  • Emergency Medical Services Personnel
  • Peace Officer
  • Corrections Officer
  • Juvenile Corrections Officer
  • County Jailer
  • Public Security Officer

Funds are close to being fully committed .   The Corporation plans on releasing additional funds soon . 

How to qualify: Be a full time, paid Firefighter, Emergency Medical Services Personnel, Peace Officer, Corrections Officer, Juvenile Corrections Officer, County Jailer, or a Public Security Officer working in the State of Texas

Home Sweet Texas Loan Program

This program is not profession specific.  To be eligible for this program, a potential buyer must be at or below 80% Area Median Family Income (AFMI).   Please click here to view income limits for your county.
